From A Creative Family
Patricia is a third-generation Northwest resident. As the daughter of two artists, I grew up visiting local museums and had hours to be lost in old paintings. I felt drawn to the paintings of women in beautiful dresses.
Sewing is in my DNA, with three grandmothers and a great-grandfather who all sewed, it seemed to be my destiny.
I began working with needle and thread at age seven. My mother gave me a cross stitch sampler. I loved the process of creating and became hooked on sewing. I learned; cross stitch, needle point, embroidery, hairpin lace, knitting, candle wicking and anything else I could get my hands on.
When I turned 13 my step-mother decided to teach me how to lay out a pattern and follow the directions. Thus my journey of creating with fabric started.
My husband gifted me a sewing machine and I started creating immediately by sewing the bridesmaid dresses for the wedding. After having my son and daughter I enjoyed making outfits for both of them. Always learning and finding new ways to sew something.
When my children were still young I found that Seattle Central Community College had an apparel design program. From that moment on it became my goal to attend and earn an Associate Degree. In 1993 I began attending classes.
After graduation I was offered a job assisting a woman doing alterations for a high end bridal shop in Kirkland, WA . When she quit, the shop immediately hired me.
I altered gowns from; Birnbaum and Bullock, Carolina Herrera, Badgley Mischka, Melissa Sweet and many more. I learned many valuable construction techniques as well as developing a keen eye for fit.
I moved to Whidbey Island in 2005 and provide sewing and alterations for not only Whidbey, but from Dubai to Houston as well.
Recently several members of the Sons of the American Revolution have found me and come from far and near to have me create their custom uniforms. I am excited about adding uniforms to my list of projects.
